In 1999, I graduated in Environmental Sciences from the University of Granada. In the year 2000, I obtained a Scholarship from the Research Staff Training Plan of the Ministry of Education and Science, with which I started a new line of research on the role of sediment in the nutrient dynamics of eutrophic systems. During my Doctoral Thesis I made two stays in foreign centers: the Istituto Italiano di Idrobiologia (Pallanza, Italy) and the Institute of Biology (Odense, Denmark). From this stay a close collaboration arose between the Universities of Granada and the South of Denmark that was reflected, later, in the choice of the Danish research center to carry out my Post-Doctoral stay. In 2004, I obtained the title of Doctor with a mention of European Doctorate with the thesis entitled “Nutrient exchange at the water-sediment interface of two coastal lagoons with a high trophic level: La Albufera de Adra (Almería)”. Subsequently, I obtained a Post-Doctoral scholarship from the M.E.C. (2005-2007) at the Institute of Biology to further my studies on the restoration of eutrophic lakes. Specifically, during this period I was interested in the study of chemical interferences, derived from the presence of anions and cations in the water, in the precipitation of phosphorus through the addition of aluminum salts (de Vicente et al., 2008, The Science of the Total Environment), as well as the effect of aluminum floc aging on its phosphorus adsorption capacity (de Vicente et al., 2008, Environmental Science and Technology). Both aspects are especially relevant for the correct management of eutrophic aquatic ecosystems through the addition of aluminum salts. During my research career, I have published 56 JCR articles (57% in the first quartile), 13 book chapters, 74 communications in national and international conferences and 4 invited presentations. I have supervised 4 Doctoral Theses, 20 Final Degree Projects and Final Degree Projects and 13 Final Master's Projects. I have participated in 17 National and International Research Projects, being IP of four of them. Since July 2021, I am a Professor at the Department of Ecology at the University of Granada, carrying out my teaching and research tasks at the Department of Ecology and at the Water Institute of the University of Granada. I have been Secretary of the Department of Ecology from May 2013 to May 2022.
